Luciano Afferrante received the MSc Mechanical Engineering Degree cum laude in December 2001 and in May 2006 the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Politecnico di Bari (Italy). He has been a Visiting Scholar at University of Michigan (USA), University of Sheffield (UK), and University of Cambridge (UK). He is a founding member of PoliMech srl, spin-off of Polytechnic University of Bari, founded in 2008, and was responsible for Polimech of more than 10 research projects funded by private and public companies. His scientific interests focus mainly on tribology, contact mechanics, viscoelastic materials, adhesion, biomimetics, biomechanics, fracture. He was also scientific coordinator of research projects funded from public programmes (for example, PON, POR, FFABR national projects) and private companies (for example, Magna PT, Vodafone, MASMEC, etc…). He serves as Associate Editor of the Journal Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering (Tribology Section) and is member of the Editorial Board of (i) Biomimetics and (ii) Mathematical and Computational Applications. He authored more than 150 publications, of which more than 100 in archive journals indexed in Scopus and WoS.
